GoDEX Printer Not Printing? 10 Quick Fixes That Actually Work - McAuley Labels

If your GoDEX printer (DT, RT, ZX series) stops printing, skips labels, or shows a flashing light with no output, try these proven fixes. Most issues resolve in minutes with the checks below.

This guide covers the top 10 fixes that work for GoDEX RT700i+, DT4x, ZX420i+, and more.

1) Check Power and Connections

Confirm the power cable is seated and the LED is on. Try a different outlet if needed. Check your USB/Ethernet/Wi-Fi connection and ensure the printer is online on your network.

2) Verify the Printer Is Selected in Your Software

In GoLabel, ShipStation, or your shipping app, pick the exact model/port (e.g., GoDEX RT700i+ (USB)). The wrong driver or destination can block output or cause blank labels.

3) Load Labels Correctly

Ensure the printable side faces the print head, and the media guides gently touch the liner. For fanfold labels, feed straight through the rear slot to avoid side drift.

4) Run Auto-Calibration

If the printer can’t detect label gaps, it won’t print correctly. Hold Feed until the LED flashes, then release. The printer feeds a few labels and stops at the top of the next one. You can also run calibration in GoLabel → Printer Tools → Auto Calibration.

5) Clean the Print Head

Power off and let the head cool. Clean the print head and platen roller with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) using a lint-free swab. Let dry fully before printing.

6) Check Ribbon Installation (Thermal Transfer Only)

For RT/ZX models in thermal transfer mode, verify the ribbon is routed correctly with the inked side toward the label surface. If using direct thermal labels, remove the ribbon entirely.

7) Confirm Label Sensor Type

Set the correct sensor in GoLabel/driver:

  • Gap Sensor for most die-cut shipping/barcode labels
  • Black Mark Sensor only for labels with a dark mark on the liner

Align the physical sensor under the gap/mark track, then re-calibrate.

8) Adjust Darkness and Speed

Faint or uneven print? Increase Darkness (heat) by 10–15% and lower Speed to ~3–4 ips for dense barcodes/small text. Set in GoLabel or the printer driver.

9) Update or Reinstall the Driver

Install the latest GoLabel package (includes drivers). Reboot, reconnect the printer, and select the correct port. Outdated/corrupt drivers can block printing.

10) Reset to Factory Defaults

Power off. Hold Feed + Pause and power on until the LED flashes, then release. This clears bad settings and restores default calibration.

Bonus: Check Your Label Stock

Low-quality media leads to poor sensing and adhesive buildup. Use premium thermal rolls (uniform gaps, clean liners). McAuley Labels provides vetted rolls with free shipping.

FAQ – GoDEX Printer Not Printing

Why is my GoDEX printer printing blank labels?Ā
Labels may be upside-down or the wrong sensor type is selected. Reload with the printable side toward the head and re-calibrate.
How often should I clean the print head?Ā
Every 1–2 rolls, or whenever print quality fades. Always power off and let it cool before cleaning.
My printer skips labels. What should I do?
That’s typically a sensing issue. Select the correct sensor (Gap vs Black Mark), reposition the sensor, and run auto-calibration.Ā
Do I need special labels?
GoDEX supports standard 4Ɨ6 thermal labels and most third-party rolls. Higher quality media improves sensing and print clarity.
